Bio:
Brian Spolans ia an artist and instructor based in Southeast Michigan. His work has been exhibited at 500X Gallery in Dallas, Gallery Aferro in New Jersey, Bridge for Emerging Contemporary Arts Gallery in New Orleans, International Print Center of New York, and Published in New American Paintings, Fresh Paint Magazine and Create Magazine.
Brian Spolans received his bachelor's degree in studio art from the University of Texas in Austin. After a year of printing t-shirts, he returned to studying printmaking at the University of North Texas in Denton. After graduating, he acted as a master printer for Vernon Fisher, Tom Orr, Ludwig Schwarts, and Linea Glatt through the Dallas Contemporary until accepting a full-time position teaching printmaking at Eastern Michigan University.
Artist Statement:
My work illustrates relationships between communities, individuals, technologies and environments. I explore the intersections of conflicting and contradictory notions within these relationships. They act as visual representations of cognitive dissonance, where two opposing concepts are given equal weight and exist comfortably with each other. These representations
